Sharing in Jesus’ Authority

For 5 September 2023, Anniversary of Deceased Friends and Benefactors, based on Luke 4:31-37
Jesus went down to Capernaum, a city in Galilee, and was teaching them on the sabbath. They were astounded at his teaching, because he spoke with authority. In the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, ‘Let us alone! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.’ But Jesus rebuked him, saying, ‘Be silent, and come out of him!’ When the demon had thrown him down before them, he came out of him without having done him any harm. They were all amazed and kept saying to one another, ‘What kind of utterance is this? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and out they come!’ And a report about him began to reach every place in the region.

Powerful words. I am reading a book by N.T. Wright and the title is “How God Became King.” You say the power (and authority) of God is in our hands…I love your words on how to apply this power—to disarm the powers of this world. I would say God’s peace to you, but since that is a gift you give to others you must already be filled with it! So it is my hope that “God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

I left a comment several hours ago about the message to these Scriptures and how Nick used powerful words saying, “We have the power of God in our hands” to give people peace and to make the world a happier place. And now I open the Bible to read King David saying, “I want to show God’s kindness to them.” 2 Samuel 9:3. What a gift we have when we share the power of God’s kindness to others!! It is a reflection of the prayer Nick shared in his message.
