Of Gnats and Camels
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
For 23 August 2022, Tuesday of week 21 in Ordinary Time, based on Matthew 23:23-26
Jesus said: ‘Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. It is these you ought to have practised without neglecting the others. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel!
‘Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may become clean.

Thank you, Maria for breaking open the gospel today so profoundly. All of us both lay and religious need to see and believe in the bigger picture of what Jesus is offering us. You are so right on that all of us if we are honest are like the Scribes and Pharisees as we refuse to see the Truth that will set us free. Let us pray to be open to the Word of God and make the changes with God’s grace that we need to take today and live life abundantly!
Blessings on your preaching the Good News!
Gratefully,
Sr. Brigid, OP
