Only Luke!

For 18 October 2022, Feast of St. Luke, based on 2 Timothy 4:10-17
Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful in my ministry. I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus. When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments. Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will pay him back for his deeds. You also must beware of him, for he strongly opposed our message.
At my first defence no one came to my support, but all deserted me. May it not be counted against them! But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth.

Thank you once again for your inspiring message regarding Paul and our beloved gospel writer Luke.
I so appreciate Luke’s gospel as he more inclusive of the women’s role in our church.

Ruth, I always look forward to your reflections and once agin you have broken open the Word in a new and fresh way for me. Focusing on the characters in the first reading reminds us of the utter humanity of this young faith community. I also appreciated your reminder of the contribution of Luke’s infancy narratives. What a gift they have been for me and for centuries of seekers. Ty

Ruth Anne, I, too, always look forward to your preaching. As always, today your enthusiasm in engaging with the Word is somehow contagious ! I am especially grateful for the reminder of the very human beings in the early Church and their struggles. And I learned more about Luke !
