For 4 September 2009, Friday of 22nd week, based on Luke 5:33-39
Then they said to him, “John’s disciples, like the disciples of the Pharisees, frequently fast and pray, but your disciples eat and drink. Jesus said to them, “You cannot make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them, can you? The days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.†He also told them a parable: “No one tears a piece from a new garment and sews it on an old garment; otherwise the new will be torn, and the piece from the new will not match the old. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the new wine will burst the skins and will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins. And no one after drinking old wine desires new wine, but says, ‘The old is good.’â€

Thank you.
Prayer
Be merciful dear Father
On the strong and on the weak
Who struggle on their journey
As your love they come to seek
Transform us by your goodness
That we may come to see
That no matter how we’re hurting
With us you want to be
Help us take each moment
With the grace you come to give
And renew us with your kindness
In each day we come to live
Help us to accept dear Lord
The wonder that you share
And as we are remade each day
To realize you’re there
Help us not to fear the darkness
In the steps we have to take
To count on you as our protector
As our old self you remake
In each step of metamorphis
From the old unto the new
Help us shed our selfishness
To be a little more like you
