Imitators of God—That’s Who We Are!
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
For 8 August 2021, Feast of St. Dominic, based on Ephesians 4:30—5:2
Brothers and sisters, do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which you were marked with a seal for the day of redemption. Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Dear Jim,
What a wonderful mediation for St Dominic! I have to own those feelings for my political foes, and with plenty of feeling. I do though honor Joe Biden because I think him innocent for the most part because he is tying to build a better world. He seems more sinned against than sinning. But I know there are many people (within our church) who see him as a sinner because he is not as opposed as he should be to abortion. I am opposed to that too, but I wonder what we are doing for those who see no other way out of their problems! And that is what I have to do mostly, because they need compassion, and people who say, “How can I help you?†I would genuinely love to help them find the love, not only for their baby, but also of a man whose love would give them and their baby a happy life! I know that is what St Dominic would love!
I also know that through the Dominican community we want to build a loving community for the lonely and depressed! It is what I have found through and with the Dominicans. We have so much loving compassion to give through our communities! Not just to each other but together to the world!

Thank you Jimmy! You have offered a beautiful reflection for all and in particular, for all of us in the Dominican Family to be as St Paul calls us:
to remove our anger, to celebrate being sealed with the Holy Spirit and to be kind and compassionate – Yes imitators of God! I so wanted to hear You singing : Let there be Peace on Earth …. at the end of your preaching…. So I closed my eyes and opened my heart and I Did!
