The meaning of the word

Friday of 16th week, based on Matthew 13:18-23

“Hear then the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing. But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”

About Mr Mike Kelly OP

I am married to Jenny, and we have 5 grown-up children and 9 grandchildren. I have had careers in education, and as an immigration consultant. Jenny and I are part of a local Dominican family, and have been part of a preaching team that travelled widely. The thing that makes me Dominican is what Fr Timothy Radcliffe OP calls "a deep relationship between the Dominican vocation to preach, and a passion for justice".

  1. Thank you.

Please help me find the meaning
To the gifts you’ve given me
Why it is you are so generous
Why with me you’ve come to be

I lie here like a little child
Not sure just what to do
The only thing that makes much sense
Is the love I get from you

Please help me on this journey
To make it day by day
    Lead me by your mercy
As I try to find my way

It is a long and winding road
On which I’ve come to stand
    Without your gracious kindness
    There’s not much I understand

I’ve been down this road before
I’ve lost all track of time
    Bound up in the rhythm
    That is human and divine

Please help me try to hear your voice
    Wherever I may be
    The mystery and the magic
That you’re calling me to see
