For 9 August 2009, 19th Sunday, based on John 6:41-51
Then the Jews began to complain about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.†They were saying, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?†Jesus answered them, “Do not complain among yourselves. No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me; and I will raise that person up on the last day. It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Very truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.â€

Thank you.
Prayer
You feed me with your mercy, your feed me with your grace
You fill the many crevices, that make up my time and space
You feed me with compassion, that never seems to end
When I come to fall and tumble, you’re still my faithful friend
You feed me like no other, and do not count the cost
You’re there to hold me closely, when everything seems lost
You feed me with the bread of life, in you I am for real
You never, ever hurt me, with your love my fate you seal
Please help me now to hunger, for the goodness that you give
That in some very little way, like you I may come to live
Be with me Lord Redeemer, for I know not where to go
You’re the only one who’s constant, in all I’ve come to know
Please let me let you feed me, in the simple things I do
That in my forty days and nights, I may always cling to you
Please help me share your kindness, with those I come to see
That all my come to realize, that with us you want to be
Please help me holy Father, when I doubt you call me mine
Help me always to be hungry, for your holy life divine
