For 4 August 2019, Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, based on Luke 12:13-21
Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.†But he said to him, “Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?†And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.†Then he told them a parable: “The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, ‘What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?’ Then he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God.â€

Thank you, Deborah for your excellent preaching, insights, and sharing stories in your own life.
You made the parable so rich for me to see that all is Gift from our Beloved God and challenged me
to be more generous.
Blessings on your life and continued preaching,

Sr. Brigid, many thanks for responding to this preaching–you are a voice of kindness for so many preachers at The Word! I sent this preaching in before the terrible violence in El Paso, TX, and Dayton, OH, so I see even more poignantly how much God needs to break in to our interior monologues. God bless.
Peace,
Deborah

Wow! You brought this gospel home……even not being rich, there are things we hold on to that are not the best for us or others…..something to ponder!
Thank you.
Peace and love,
Elaine

Elaine, many thanks for your kind words. I remember that in my delight at having two prizes and for many years afterward, it never occurred to me to worry that perhaps someone else had opened a box without any prizes at all–that maybe my “extra” was someone else’s “only”!
Love,
Deborah
