Cleansing the Inside of the Cup
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
For 25 August 2020, Tuesday of week 21 in Ordinary Time, based on Matthew 23:23-26
Jesus said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. It is these you ought to have practiced without neglecting the others. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel!
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may become clean.

When you are living and loving the life of Jesus, we do not have what the world calls, “white guilt.”
Rather we respect others as our-self out of love for God, whose is a our Father and not a mother. The Blessed Virgin Mary is the the mother of Jesus and our mother.

Thank you, Joan, for your preacbing and powerful reminder that white privilege is real and it is systemic. Acknowledgment of our own privilege is a necessary first step to dismantling racism. We pray to Amma/Abba God that it may be so…
