One with the suffering, rather than the best

For 14 September 2023, The Exaltation of the Holy Cross, based on Philippians 2:6-11
(original artwork by Barbara Schwarz, OP)
Though he was in the form of God,
Jesus did not regard equality with God
as something to be exploited,
but emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death—
even death on a cross.
Therefore God also highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Outstanding preaching Barbara, in the pulse of many many conversations and prayers all summer!!Beautiful juxtaposition of Jesus coming as one like us, and the societal challenges of today. I have had many conversations wit family friends and foe about our societal issues, and find it incredible that they feel so “anti” everything, yet claim superior religiosity!
So Grateful of the discernment that God is God and I am not. No judgement, Hope! Hope in Jesus Christ! Amen! Thank you Barbara! xoxoxo

It is so easy not to “empty” ourselves. Thank you for again reminding us of the necessity to do so and the reason to do so.

I wrote your question, Barbara, “What do we grasp in our lives?” in my journal as a thought to carry with me today. Thank you for the gift of your preaching.
