For 27 September 2023, Memorial of Saint Vincent de Paul, Priest, based on Luke 9:1-6
Jesus called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. He said to them, ‘Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money—not even an extra tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there, and leave from there. Wherever they do not welcome you, as you are leaving that town shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.’ They departed and went through the villages, bringing the good news and curing diseases everywhere.

Thank you Judith Anne for your reflection today. Quite thought provoking to link it with our elections. The Jesus we love and follow is so all embracing – bringing all those who were on the edge through whatever ailment back into their own place of true belonging. Amen.

I wonder how those seeking election in our country would receive your message. Power, prestige and pleasure appear to have taken the front seat with some in our Senate and Supreme Court.

DEAR JUDITH ANNE,
You have brought the Kingdom of God near to us by your preaching the Words and Actions of Jesus.
May we do the same in these days where it is most needed…for our death row prisoners, for women being trafficked, to our senators and government officials, to the poor and abandoned, to people who experience prejudice, for our children who need special help at this time.
Blessings on your continued preaching,
Brigid Cannon, OP
