For 16 February 2024, Friday after Ash Wednesday, based on Matthew 9:14-15
The disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “The wedding guests cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.

Fr. Kieran my heart leapt to see your name as preacher today! I (we, clearly) have missed your voice and messages. I will add your idea of thoughtful listening to my Lenten plans. Thank you and may God continue to bless you.

So grateful Fr. Kieran for your reflections and challenges of a sincere listening heart and mind to another. How often do I (we) think we are listening and yet we haven’t let the truth of what another is saying go deeply into our heart and mind. True listening takes a lot of effort and openness to hear beyond the words to the voice of the Spirit calling us to new life and hope.
Blessings on your preaching, I pray to pause and listen more deeply to what another is sharing.
