For 21 May 2024, Tuesday of week 7 in Ordinary Time, based on Mark 9:30-37
Jesus and his disciples passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know it; for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, ‘The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again.’ But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him.
Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, ‘What were you arguing about on the way?’ But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, ‘Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.’ Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, ‘Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.’

Terri, I also am in. From little on up, I have been a worm preservationist, rescuer from the sidewalk and nope, never fished with a worm. Now – to be a member of the club with humans too…what a brilliant invitation and challenge! Thank you to you and to the parish Worm Club President!

My husband knows my history of loving worms by viewing everything from my sidewalk rescues to getting a grant to place compost bins in classrooms! He often surprises me with an unexpected gift—- a carton of the largest worms from a local bait shop. Yep. The gorgeous creatures get a protected, plush dwelling place in our backyard garden for life ! Thank you for serving today through your teaching!

Dear Terry,
Yes, Yes, I will sign up for the “worm club”and remember if I see one on the sidewalk to pick it up gently and put it in dirt. How often have we heard to be “Servants of all living beings”! Yet, how often do we forget the smallest beings and help them to live. When I lived in Albuquerque, NM, I was so impressed when one of my sisters in community gently lifted snake out of our living room. Wow!
Thank you for the challenge and reminder to respect life in all the many and diverse form we meet in our faith journey. May the Spirit guide you in all your continued preaching! We are so proud of you!
Love and hugs,
Sr. Brigid

That was a great environmental, as well as practical, spiritual preaching, Terri! I’ve been a member of the worm club for quite awhile! I loved your application to the people we feel are “below”us! I appreciated it so much because of my Street Family I work with! Many blessings and lots of love! Will be good to have you back home!

Sign me up! Terry, I think the thing I appreciate most about this preaching is your tone, pace and the tenor of your voice. You preach with such confidence and also a soft tenderness.

I am happy to join the Worm Club. To me your message was one of the simplest descriptions of Catholic Social Teaching I’ve ever heard. Thank you for sharing. I’ve also now been introduced to a new place to find daily inspiration. Love you much.
