Micah 7:14-15, 18-20
Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity
and passing over the transgression
of the remnant of your possession?
He does not retain his anger for ever,
because he delights in showing clemency.
He will again have compassion upon us;
he will tread our iniquities under foot.
You will cast all our sins
into the depths of the sea.
You will show faithfulness to Jacob
and unswerving loyalty to Abraham,
as you have sworn to our ancestors
from the days of old.
Will you be angry with us for ever?
Will you prolong your anger to all generations?
Will you not revive us again,
so that your people may rejoice in you?
Show us your steadfast love, O Lord,
and grant us your salvation.
Psalm 85:5-8
Will you be angry with us for ever?
Will you prolong your anger to all generations?
Will you not revive us again,
so that your people may rejoice in you?
Show us your steadfast love, O Lord,
and grant us your salvation.
Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,
for he will speak peace to his people,
to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts.
Matthew 12:50
Jesus told the crowds, “For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

Beth,
Thanks for this preaching. I love the way that poem that speaks of the mysterious relationship between suffering and compassion, expressed in kindness. So timely especially for these days of political division and violence in every form.

Yes Beth! And Thanks! Jesus calls us to Radical love for each other!
I think we need to “relearn” the basics! The Two Greatest Commandments: Love God / Love our Neighbor. And of the Ten Buddhist Virtues: #4. Loving Kindness ! Cultivating
Kindness and Empathy towards all Beings. When will we ever learn???
