For 21 September 2025, the Twenty Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, based on Amos 8:4-7
Hear this, you that trample on the needy,
and bring to ruin the poor of the land,
saying, “When will the new moon be over
so that we may sell grain;
and the sabbath,
so that we may offer wheat for sale?
We will make the ephah small and the shekel great,
and practice deceit with false balances,
buying the poor for silver
and the needy for a pair of sandals,
and selling the sweepings of the wheat.”
The Lord has sworn by the pride of Jacob:
Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.

Beth, your detention center image cuts to the heart of these very challenging readings and will have me thinking this Sunday about our dependence on God as we act prophetically for justice thank you.

Thank you, Beth. One response to today’s injustices is prophetic preaching like yours. Most grateful, with Dominican hug.

Powerful call to do the right thing

Beth — Thank you for your moving and challenging message from Amos. I am so deeply touched by your “eloquence of clarity” as inspired by Amos. How crucial was his warning in the 8th c. B.C. but even more in 2025.

Beth, your preaching couldn’t be more prophetic, nor challenging, for these times in which we live! May “truth” always remain a word in our vocabulary. Thank you!

prayer – filled action!

Beth, your prophetic words of wisdom challenge us all! The images of the peaceful prayer vigil outside the detention center the protesters shouting in bull horns is haunting. May we all pick up the mantle of peaceful words and actions in our troubled country!

Beth: Your homily touches all of us here in our own time and shows us the wealth of dependence on God. Thank you.

Thank you. While listening, I was reflecting on a similar situation while praying outside planned parenthood. I will remember your preaching when I pray there again, for human dignity.
22 September 2025 @ 2:44 am
Beth, the image of the detention center scene so aptly captures the apparent impotence so many of us feel these days, Thank you for the reminder to pray with radical dependence on God and to let the pursuit and expression of Truth guide a prophetic response.
22 September 2025 @ 3:44 am
Beth, you never disappoint! Thank you for your challenging words of inspiration and call to action.
24 September 2025 @ 1:13 am

Grateful for your preaching this week, when there’s so much untruth circulating. The image of the group praying outside the detention center alongside the protestors will stay with me – thank you for turning an image that could have suggested powerlessness into an image that instead reminded me of right relationship with God.
