For 24 July 2020, Friday of week 16 in Ordinary Time, based on Matthew 13:18-23
Jesus said, “Hear then the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing. But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.â€

So has it gotten better now that the Church doesn’t imply Catholicism is the true faith? It seems to me there is more a loss of faith, especially among Catholics, now than in past times. Perhaps modern times and this modern approach of the Church has ruined the soil on which the Word falls. It’s not a question of speaking harshly. It’s a question of pointing out this is the Truth. Maybe we need to change back.

Thanks, Marianne. We three listened to your homily for our evening prayer and we all loved it. We recall meeting you when we did the renewal at Monmouth Beach. Hope you and your friends are well. We are fine.

Marianne,
What a great homily! Done with a delightful irony which I share from my youth in St. Paul, MN. You understand the unending love of God in spite of our broken being. (Manny doesn’t yet understand that only God is Truth, not doctrine. Doctrine is only our feeble attempt to understand The Word). Stay upbeat!
