Salt and Light

For 29 June 2020, Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles, based on Matthew 5:13-16
Jesus said to his disciples,  “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.
“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Ruth,
thank you so much for the reflection to mark the Solemn Feast of Peter and Paul.
You have given solid reasons for choosing this gospel passage to mark the occasion, enabling me to admire both saints even more, seeing both the flavour with which food (teaching) must be served and the clarity of thought that enables the listener to ‘see’ the point of what is being proposed as wisdom to draw us onward and upward. Grazie di cuore!

Oh my goodness, what a lovely compliment! We met years and years ago at Santa Sabina… I have been extremely fortunate in knowing so many of you in the Curia at various times. It’s immensely encouraging to have such a positive comment from a “professional”! Thank you and a big Dominican hug!
