Jesus’ mother and his brothers came; and standing outside, they sent to him and called him. A crowd was sitting around him; and they said to him, ‘Your mother and your brothers and sisters are outside, asking for you.’ And he replied, ‘Who are my mother and my brothers?’ And looking at those who sat around him, he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.’

As usual, you have presented a most cogent view on Jesus’ remarks and attitude. He proves what he means about an all-encompassing love that extends to all — immediate family not withstanding.
Hard truths sometimes hit hardest, don’t they?
Thank you.

Dear Ruth,
So grateful for your preaching of the Good News! Jesus is always challenging us as I am sure he challenged and prayed always to do the Father’s Will. Often this means widening our circle of love. Family is important and Jesus knew that yet his mission and our mission as his followers is to do God’s will where ever that may take us. It is “tough love” as you mentioned so clearly. And he assures us for those who do His Will, will live with him forever. What a gift! Continued blessings of the Holy Spirit on your preaching.
Deep peace,
Brigid Cannon, OP
